As of May 2007, all users will need to Authenticate for SMTP in order to send messages from Outlook.
Background:
In the past, the system used "POP before SMTP" Authentication. The system still allows this type of authentication, but spam control measures are now listing this email as un-trusted. This is a change from what they have done in the past.
Basic setup information:
SMTP & POP3 Server: mail.[yourdomain].com
yourdomain is really YOUR DOMAIN NAME
Username is your email address.
Follow this guide to setup your outlook properly for SMTP Authentication.
In Outlook, go to
1.Tools-> Email Accounts
2. Next
3. Select your Email Account in the box (you may only have one)
4. Press Change
5. Press the "More Settings Button" (Shown below)
6. Click on the "Outgoing Server" Tab.
—Check "My outgoing.."
—Select "Use same setting"
Select OK and Finish.
Your emails should now be marked as "ALL_TRUSTED".
MAC and Thunderbird:
Apple/Mac "Mail":
The following instructions are for the Apple Mail application in Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) and Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).
Select "Preferences" from the "Mail" menu.
Once you are in the Preferences, click the "Accounts" icon at the top of the preferences pane. Then, click the desired account from the menu on the left.
Click the "Server Settings..." button located near the bottom of the right side, below Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).
In the resulting window, type mail.yourdomain.com in the "Outgoing Mail Server:" field. (Use your own domain name there instead of "yourdomain.com")
In the drop-down menu next to "Authentication:", choose "Password."
In the username field, type your username (your username is your full e-mail address including the domain name).
In the password field, type your password for that e-mail account.
Click OK to activate the SMTP authentication.
Thunderbird:
Go to "Account Settings" under the "Tools" menu.
Select the "Outgoing Server (SMTP) option.
Select the "Edit" button for the account you want to edit.
Under "Security and Authentication" is a checkbox for "Use name and password". This enables SMTP Authentication -- make sure that checkbox IS selected, and enter your username in there. (Your username is your full e-mail address.)
